It just that I know that the other books won't have the same charm as this one. This book is the first of the series and I'm sorry to say that I know I won't be reading any of the others, even though I really did think this book was a real gem. When I finished I wanted to go right away and read the Book of Mormon and see how well the book followed the events that actually happened (well I am really going to do that after I finish this review). From how he thought all the heroes of the Book of Mormon would have acted to the general feel of the culture at the time. I thought the author did everything almost pitch perfect. Jim with his sense of adventure and Garth with all his knowledge of the Book of Mormon made this team priceless. I absolutely thought that the main characters, Jim and Garth, were the perfect match to go back to the time of the Nephites and Lamanites. A lot of the funny moments wouldn't make sense and it's always a shame not to get a good joke. Of course you can read it if your aren't but I doubt that it would be as entertaining. I should also mention that this is really a book for people who already are LDS members. It's geared towards middle school aged boys, but I can say (at least in my case) it didn't lessen my enjoyment of the book. Granted this book really isn't for everybody. This was the first word that came to my mind when I finished. Life’s not particularly easy for any of us these days, is it? I do think however, that it’s worth knowing more about some of the stresses particular to BIPOC authors, particularly the struggle for the continued existence of their stories. So, here she is with a book that released in 2021, a most challenging to release and market a new book now writing her next book and then, having an older book listed in Texas for possible removal from a library. But their father has a secret – one that threatens to destroy the twins’ happy family and life as they know it. Ysabel’s jewelry designs have already caught the eyes of the art world and Justin’s intelligence and drive are sure to gain him entrance into the most prestigious of colleges. Teenage twins Ysabel and Justin Nicholas are lucky.
That’s the question that comes to preoccupy Jules Jacobson, the ambitious protagonist of Meg Wolitzer’s remarkable ninth novel, “The Interestings,” whose inclusive vision and generous sweep place it among the ranks of books like Jonathan Franzen’s “Freedom” and Jeffrey Eugenides’s “Marriage Plot.” “The Interestings” is warm, all-American and acutely perceptive about the feelings and motivations of its characters, male and female, young and old, gay and straight but it’s also stealthily, unassumingly and undeniably a novel of ideas. But does the compulsion to excel make anybody happy? Or is it, rather, a prescription for disappointment in oneself and in the “circumscribed world”? And yet his quest to be exceptional (in which he inarguably succeeded) didn’t appear to make him all that happy, judging from his prodigious, grumbling output. Mencken once wrote that his definition of happiness included “a comfortable feeling of superiority to the masses of one’s fellow men” - something he suggested was more easily achieved in this country than elsewhere. I received The Confession for review, but was fortunate to be able to catch The Shunning first when it was re-aired on Hallmark right before the debut of The Confession. And they recently aired the second movie in the series, Beverly Lewis' the Confession. A few years ago, they featured The Shunning, which is the first novel in Beverly Lewis’ “The Heritage of Lancaster County” trilogy. So, I was excited to hear that several of her books have been made into movies for the Hallmark Channel. I’m a big fan of the books by Beverly Lewis, which feature characters from Amish communities.
